Why We Rebranded from VERA to SOTRU

SOTRU Team

When we started building VERA, the name made perfect sense. VERA stood for Verification and Authentication, which accurately described what the platform did. We verified business identities, authenticated communications, and enabled the exchange of trusted credentials. Those capabilities remain at the core of our platform today and continue to form the technical foundations of everything we build.

As we spent more time working with customers across industries such as legal, property, construction, and financial services, we began to realise something important. Verification and authentication described how the platform worked, but they did not describe why it mattered. The customers who became excited about what we were building were rarely excited about authentication itself. They were excited about the confidence it created when conducting business online.

The conversations consistently came back to a specific problem. Businesses wanted certainty during the moments that matter most. The moment a supplier shares banking details. The moment a payment instruction is received. The moment sensitive information is exchanged between two organisations. The moment someone has to decide whether a request, email, invoice, or document is legitimate. Those are the moments where fraud actually occurs, and those are the moments where trust is tested.

At the same time, the environment businesses operate in is becoming increasingly complex. Business Email Compromise, invoice fraud, phishing attacks, impersonation, synthetic identities, and AI-generated deception are becoming more sophisticated every year. Yet many organisations still rely on processes that were never designed for high-trust digital interactions. Banking details are exchanged through PDFs and email attachments. Payment instructions are approved through inboxes. Critical decisions are often made based on information that is assumed to be authentic rather than proven to be authentic.

What became clear to us was that the problem we were solving was not simply verification. Verification is a mechanism. Authentication is a mechanism. The real outcome businesses are seeking is trust. They want confidence that the organisation they are dealing with is genuine, that the information they have received is legitimate, and that the actions they are about to take can be trusted.

That realisation led us to our new name: SOTRU.

SOTRU is a more accurate expression of what the platform is actually for. The name reflects our belief that businesses should not have to guess whether a communication is genuine, whether banking details have been manipulated, or whether the person on the other side of a transaction is who they claim to be. In a digital environment increasingly polluted by impersonation and deception, organisations need a way to establish certainty. They need confidence that what they are seeing is, quite simply, so true.

While the name has changed, the foundations we built as VERA remain exactly the same. Verifiable credentials, source-verified identity proofs, DIDComm-based encrypted communication, and secure trust infrastructure continue to sit at the heart of the platform. These technologies remain fundamental to how we help organisations establish trust online.

What is expanding under the SOTRU brand is the application of that technology. Our focus is increasingly centred on the moments where trust matters most. This includes invoice verification, secure business communication, continuous monitoring of counterparty changes, deeper integration into payment workflows, and broader interoperability across jurisdictions and trust ecosystems. We are building infrastructure that helps organisations establish trusted relationships not just during onboarding, but throughout the entire lifecycle of a business relationship.

This rebrand is not a pivot. It is a clarification.

The vision has remained remarkably consistent from the beginning. We have always believed that businesses should be able to know who they are dealing with, communicate securely, and exchange critical information with confidence. What has changed is our understanding of how best to describe that mission.

VERA described the mechanism. SOTRU describes the outcome.

To everyone who has supported us on this journey so far, thank you. Your feedback, trust, and belief in the importance of this problem have played a significant role in shaping both the platform and the company we are becoming. We are incredibly excited for what comes next.

The internet transformed how businesses communicate. Now it is time to transform how businesses trust.
